Hi Jessie, thank you for your review & we are sorry to hear the capsules did not break down in your compost!
These compostable capsules are entirely made from plant based materials and will break down in the compost if certain conditions are met (warm temperature, moist, lots of oxygen). The best way to compost them is through an industrial composter, if your municipal region has this - as industrial composters meet the requirements for decomposition. In an industrial composter, it will take roughly 8 weeks for the capsule to break down. If you are just using your home compost, it is a bit more tricky to get the capsules to break down and it will take much longer than expected. This is because the temperature, moistness & oxygen levels in our home composts tend to fluctuate, so it will take a much longer time than with an industrial level composter to decompose - and in the case where the compost is unable to consistently meet these conditions, the capsules cannot break down.
I know Balzac's coffee doesn't put much information on their packaging regarding the capsules composting process. I hope this extra info helps!
Have a great day,
