  • Bringing Your Machine to The Doctor: What Happens When You Bring Your Espresso Machine to ECS Coffee?

    Aug 14, 2026

When your espresso machine stops working properly, bringing it in for service can feel like a bit of a mystery. What happens after you hand it over? How do the technicians figure out what’s wrong? And how do they know the machine is ready to come home?

At ECS Coffee, every machine that comes through our service centre goes through a process designed to identify the problem, address the underlying issue, and make sure the machine is working properly before it leaves.

Here’s a behind-the-scenes look at what happens once your espresso machine arrives at ECS Coffee.

Step 1: Your Machine Is Tested

The first step is understanding what your machine is doing, or in some cases, what it isn’t doing.

Our factory-trained technicians begin by testing the machine and assessing the issue you've brought it in for. They look at how the machine is functioning and investigate any symptoms you’ve noticed.

Is it not heating properly? Is it leaking? Is the grinder not working? Are you having trouble getting the machine to brew?

Testing gives our technicians a starting point and helps them determine where they need to look more closely.

Step 2: Our Technicians Diagnose the Problem

Once the initial testing is complete, our technicians get to the root of the problem.

This can mean taking the machine apart to access its internal components and properly investigate what’s happening inside.

Rather than simply addressing the symptom, the goal is to identify why the machine isn't working properly in the first place.

Our technicians use their training and experience to assess the machine and determine what needs to be repaired.

This is an important part of the process because espresso machines are complex pieces of equipment. A problem that appears to be one thing on the outside may actually be caused by something happening elsewhere inside the machine.

Step 3: The Machine Is Repaired

Once the problem has been diagnosed, the necessary repairs can be completed.

Our technicians work on the machine to address the issue identified during the diagnostic process. The exact repair will depend on the machine and what’s causing the problem.

Whether it’s an internal component, a brewing issue, a grinder problem, or another mechanical or electrical issue, the goal is the same: get your machine back to working properly.

If your machine needs additional service, such as a descale, you can also add a descale to your intake for $25.

Step 4: We Test It Again

The repair isn't the final step! Once the work is complete, our technicians test the machine again to make sure everything is working normally.

This final check is an important part of the process. It allows our technicians to confirm that the repair has addressed the original issue and that the machine is functioning as it should before it makes its way back to you.

In other words, we don't just repair it and send it on its way, we make sure it works.

    What About the Repair Warranty?

We stand behind repairs performed by ECS Coffee. All ECS Coffee-performed repairs come with a 90-day warranty, which applies to the original issue diagnosed by our technicians.

The warranty does not cover damage caused by water scaling issues, including damage associated with the use of spring or well water.

A Quick Note Before You Bring Your Machine In

Before dropping off your espresso machine, please make sure the water reservoir is empty and that the drip tray and grounds container have been emptied and cleaned out.

We also cannot accept boxes or bags used to transport your machine, so you'll need to take those with you when you drop it off.

If your machine has been stored in a garage, cold cellar, or another damp area, please check it carefully for any bugs or larvae before bringing it in. Machines showing evidence of pests cannot be accepted.

    From Problem to Brew-Ready

So, what actually happens when you bring your espresso machine to ECS Coffee?

Our factory-trained technicians take the time to understand what's happening with your machine, investigate the root cause, complete the necessary repairs, and make sure everything is working normally before it comes back to you.
