Kettles & Teapots — Temperature Is Everything
Water temperature is critical for unlocking the best flavour in tea and coffee, and even small deviations can lead to bitterness or under-extraction. Explore ECS’s range of precision kettles from Breville, Fellow, Aarke, KitchenAid, Dualit, SMEG, plus teapots for traditional steeping and serving.
If you only drink black tea or instant coffee, a standard boil-only kettle is fine. But if you drink green tea, white tea, oolong, or brew pour-over coffee — a variable temperature kettle makes a genuinely noticeable difference every single morning. Green tea at 75–80°C tastes completely different from green tea at 100°C — the same leaves, same steep time, but lower temperature preserves sweetness and eliminates the bitterness most people assume is just ‘how green tea tastes.’ For pour-over coffee, precise temperature is part of hitting consistent extraction. The short answer: if you buy quality tea or make manual coffee, a variable temperature kettle pays off every morning.
A gooseneck kettle has a long, curved, narrow spout that gives you precise control over the flow rate and direction of your pour. For pour-over coffee methods — V60, Chemex, AeroPress, Kalita Wave — this matters significantly. The gooseneck lets you pour in a slow, controlled circle that saturates grounds evenly, produces a consistent bloom, and gives you repeatable extraction. A standard wide-mouth spout pours too fast and too broadly to do this reliably. If you make pour-over coffee, a gooseneck is not optional — it is the tool that makes pour-over possible to do well. For tea or any other use, a standard spout is fine.
Both have the same precision gooseneck spout, to-the-degree temperature control, 60-minute hold mode, and brew stopwatch. The EKG Pro upgrades the interface significantly: a full-colour LCD display replaces the simpler LCD, a push-dial replaces the toggle switch, and Guide Mode adds preset brew profiles for different coffee methods and tea types. The EKG Pro also has WiFi connectivity for firmware updates. In practice, the EKG is excellent for most pour-over enthusiasts and is our most recommended pour-over kettle. The EKG Pro is for buyers who want the best available or want Guide Mode’s brewing presets. Both produce the same quality of pour-over when used with the same technique.
Aarke builds products to last and backs them accordingly. The 5-year warranty on the Aarke Electric Kettle is the longest in our kettle range by a significant margin — most brands offer 1 year. Aarke’s warranty covers manufacturing defects and is registered directly through Aarke. This makes the Aarke a strong choice for buyers who prioritize long-term ownership and want the confidence of a brand standing behind its product for five years. The Aarke kettle is also compatible with Aarke’s Purifier water filter pitchers, which reduces limescale buildup and can extend the life of the kettle further.
We are an authorized service centre for trusted brands like Technivorm and Breville in Canada. Our in-house service technicians and wide range of parts ensures support beyond your machine purchase.
We actually use the equipment we sell. Our brewers & espresso machines have been used by our team in our showroom, evaluated for coffee quality, and chosen because we'd put it on our own counters. We don't stock drip brewers just to fill a category.
Unlike big box retailers, we carry the beans to go with the brewer. Our team can recommend the right grind size, coffee origin, and dose for the machine you're buying. The brewer and the coffee are two halves of the same result.
Family-owned since 1997, ECS Coffee is Canada's destination for coffee, espresso gear, and expert service. We know which machines last, which ones fail, and what proper maintenance looks like over a 10-15 year ownership cycle.
