Things Coffee People Say, And What They Mean

If you’ve ever overheard a coffee person talking and thought, “Are they speaking English?”. You’re not alone. Here are the phrases that make casual coffee drinkers raise an eyebrow:
-
“What origin is this?”
Translation: “Where in the world did these beans come from, and how does it affect flavour?” -
“I’m getting notes of…”
Translation: “I can actually taste more than ‘coffee’ in this cup.” -
“I prefer a natural process.”
Translation: “I like beans that were dried in the sun rather than washed, trust me, it matters.” -
“What’s the roasted date?”
Translation: “Freshness matters. A lot.” -
“This is under/over extracted.”
Translation: “This espresso isn’t brewed quite right.”

Coffee people sound scary, but really, it’s just passion (and maybe a little obsession). Next time someone talks about extraction or tasting notes, don’t run, just sip, nod, and maybe ask them to make you a cup (we love that)
