Degradable Single-Use Polypropylene Cutlery. POLAR Ecopro cutlery is primarily produced in polypropylene, mixed with an oxo-degradable additive that allows the product to break down over time; reducing its solid waste when disposed in land-fill. When Ecopro cutlery has been discarded, the product begins to undergo oxidative degradation much faster than traditional plastic products. Oxygen, along with heat, UV radiation or mechanical stress transforms the polypropylene and TDPA (total degradable plastic additive) combination into a fine powder, which bacteria and other micro-organisms digest. The inner flap of each carton will explain the time sensitive nature of POLAR Ecopro cutlery. We recommend that the cutlery be used within two years from the date of manufacture to ensure that the product is used prior to the peak of degradation.
